Dog Sling Hip Support Harness for Small Pets under 25 lbs and Dachshunds with IVDD or Back Injuries

Born on 7/13/2003, Ginger was adopted with her brother Wilson at 8 weeks old. A few months later, it became evident that Ginger was struggling to keep up with Wilson, increasingly having difficulty climbing stairs and "bunny hopping" up the steps. After consulting a veterinary specialist, the heartbreaking diagnosis was severe hip dysplasia in this young puppy.

Ginger underwent a specialized surgery called a Triple Pelvic Osteotomy (TPO) on her right hip. While the surgery was successful, her recovery proved to be extremely challenging. Strict instructions were given to use a towel to support her surgically repaired hip whenever she needed to walk, including trips outside. Once the sedation wore off, Ginger's energy level skyrocketed, and she desperately wanted to play with Wilson, making it difficult to control and keep her safe, especially navigating stairs.

Despite the difficulties, Ginger eventually recovered and was able to enjoy playing with Wilson, hiking, swimming, and all the activities she loved. However, a couple of years later, she started occasionally limping on her "good" leg after vigorous play, with the limping becoming more frequent and worsening during periods of inactivity.

Revisiting the veterinary specialist, Ginger was diagnosed with a luxating patella (a common condition in small dogs) on her back left knee, requiring yet another surgery. This time, a sling was provided, which was more effective than a towel, but Ginger's increased size and strength made it challenging to provide adequate support and restraint during her recovery.

Determined to make the recovery process easier, the idea for the GingerLead was born - a patented, padded dog sling with an integrated leash, designed to provide support and control for a safe recovery. The personal experiences with Ginger's struggles inspired the creation of GingerLead, a small, family-owned business proudly manufacturing mobility aids for pets since 2008.

Sadly, Ginger crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 7/5/2015, at the age of 12. Her spirit and zest for life will never be forgotten. The GingerLead continues to help other pets, including dogs recovering from TPLO/knee surgery, joint injuries, or intervertebral disk disease (IVDD), as well as older or disabled dogs struggling with mobility and balance issues.
